Could my pension go down?

If you left the Local Government Pension Scheme before 1 April 1998, when you get to state retirement age, your pension may go down by a small amount (no more than £1.70 for each year of membership between 1948 and 1980).

If this applies to you, the reduction will be shown on the benefits statement that came with this booklet. But remember that if you are retiring before state retirement age, the amount of the reduction will increase at the same rate as your pension each year, so the actual reduction at state retirement age will be higher.
