FPS normal minimum pension age
The Government has announced plans to increase the normal minimum pension age (NMPA) from 55 to 57 in 2028 for most pension schemes, including many public sector ones. Uniformed services, including the Firefighters' Pension Schemes, will not be effected by this and instead keep their protected pension ages.
Below are the NMPA's for each of the Firefighter schemes:
- FPS 1992 - 55 (age 50 with 25+ years service)
- FPS 2006 - 55
- FPS 2015 - 55*
*If a member is retiring from FPS 2015 with legacy FPS 1992 benefits they can retire from age 50 and claim the FPS 1992 benefits. The FPS 2015 benefits must be deferred until at least age 55 however.
